Energy From Food Calculator
The catch is you use this calculator when there is only component content (I mean here: by chemical analysis) information provided of foods, without food energy values. This incomplete information can come for instance from encyclopedia's in book form, web pages, labels on the food package or from a kitchen chef.
weight% Total Fats = % Total Saturated Fat + % Total Unsaturated Fat (this includes % of the healthy Omega Fatty Acids)
weight% Total Carbohydrates (Slang: Carbs) = % Total Starch + % Total Sugars
weight% Total Proteins (includes Amino Acids)
weight% Total Organic Acids (mainly Acetic Acid from vinegar, but could also include some other exotic digestable organic acids, anyway energy density stays the same)
(In Europe usually on the food package as X gram per 100 gram food stuff = X weight%. The FDA of the USA ruled that Nutrition Facts must be in the Metric System and per Serving Size. So you Americans can calculate the weight% like: [Amount per Serving X gram] * 100 / [Serving Size in gram] = X weight%)
vol% Alcohol (by biochemical definition not a sugar or any other kind of carbohydrate!)
(13 vol% Red Wine = 13 v/v % = 13 volume parts alcohol in 100 volume parts wine, means 10.6 gram of alcohol in 100 gram wine. So the correction factor due to volume contraction of alcohol/water mixtures is approximately 0.815. But you simply put in the vol% and the calculator makes the correction for you!)
NB: The United States and countries of the Commonwealth of Nations agreed to define the international (avoirdupois) pound to be exactly 0.45359237 kilogram. Consequently the international (avoirdupois) ounce is exactly 28.349523125 gram by definition.

Conclusions:
* This calculator finds comparable values for Food Energy as on the nutritional information label of the products in question..
* For the major part of alcoholic beverages the Food Energy is determined by the alcohol content.
