These Indian dogs are a re-creation of the dogs who lived with the native people many years ago. They are not an official breed and are not registered at the A.K.C. or F.C.I. They are a mid sized dog and come in a variety of colours. They are very sensitive and smart and need an owner who knows about dog behaviour. The dog will consider you as a member of his pack and it is necessary that the owner knows how to be an alpha of this pack. They can be shy with strangers and need to be socialised early. They are very loyal to their family and act real intuitive. The Indian dog requires a lot of exercise. They mature slow and are going to be a lot more easy when they are three years old. They are easy to train but this must be with positive reinforcement and the training must not be against their nature. They are always aware of what is going on around them. They do have a very expressive body language and like to "talk" with their high pitches voices.

The Indian dogs bond very strongly so it is very important if you take one of these dogs that you can keep it their entire life. They like to be around their owners and love it when you have a "job" to do for them. This can be all kind of sports and obedience training like agility, doggy dancing, dogscootering but also the normal things together with the owners; long walks, running next the bicycle, guarding the house or just being the companion who wants to be around you. They do need a lot of attention. The Indian dog can be left alone a couple of hours but you need to start this at a very young age. Other animals in the house will be accepted as member of the pack and they can become good friends with them.
